I study how mitochondrial respiration supports photosynthesis in plants. During my PhD, I generated moss mutants lacking key respiratory complexes and found that «healthy» mitochondria are essential for optimal photosynthetic performance — challenging the textbook view of chloroplasts as independent energy factories.
I use the moss Physcomitrium patens, chlorophyll fluorescence, respirometry, and fluorescent biosensors. I like scientific questions that cross organelle boundaries.
